I wear a skid lid. It is light and I have no problems in the Texas heat. It is DOT approved but not the protection you would get from a full face.
have helmet law in Oregon but didn't in 1988. but since i was going to be in rush hour traffic i chose to wear my full faced helmet.when i was approaching intersection in left lane a cage came out of a drive way between two cars in the right lane that where waiting for the light. because of the reduced side vision caused by the helmet i didn't see it in time toavoid being hit broadside.
i tossed the helmet (didn't do me a bit of good in the accident) and have never used full face on the street (i do use one for dirt riding) again. my helmet isn't DOT but it is carbon fiber -Kevlar, basically the best non-mushroom lid i could find.
Stuck to the bucket law in CA. Over time, you get used to it. When I roll into AZ, I still leave it on, just in case.....
For some reason, I happen to like what little brains I have left
I work in Charlotte, N.C. but live in South Carolina because no helmet law! I always wear it in N.C. but aside from work I try to stay where I can make the choice not the politicians.
Luckily in Ohio there is no helmet law other than for new riders for a year and those under 18. I choose not to wear a helment. To me that is part of the ride the wind blowing over my face and head and the wide open road. I do have a DOT skull cap that i throw stickers on and pack when i am planning a ride that cross's into Political helment law states.
My observation here local in Ohio. 90% Of HOG riders do not wear a helmet. I would never ride without one . To those that do not. I could really care less.
Gonna be riding in Florida this time next year...doing the Eagle rider paradise run. Over here in the UK it compulsory and have never been on a bike without one...gotta say its mighty tempting to be without going over the 7 mile bridge en route to Key West...
I live in PA where helmets are optional in most cases. I respect one's choice to wear or not to wear one. I'd love tomake a conscious choice not towear one. But,I am a Risk Manager in an inherently dangerous industry. I see the injuries that occur even when wearing protective gear. Needless to say, you can guess that I wear a helmet all of the time.
