Nine times out of ten it's the first question I'm asked when I tell someone I ride. I hear that question almost every day! Not, what do you ride, how long have you been riding, what color is your bike, how many miles have you ridden, or anything like that. No, it's "Do you wear a helmet?"
I then feel obligated to tell them that I don't and why I don't and defend my decision.
The next question is usually, "Do you go to that biker bar down on US 1?" (Reni's Rooster which has been there for over 40 years and is having to close down in the next few months, gonna be one helluva party!)
Anyway, thanks for letting me vent. I just get tired of being asked that question.
Hell YES I wear a Helmet!
I also think their shouldn't be a law saying you should have to wear one. It's a personal decision and I think it should be up to the rider. Riding is a big risk, if you can decide to ride, you should be able to decide on how to ride!
I'm not married and have no kids and I don't usually wear a skid lid. I ride 2 up with my girl all the time and we both go with no helmet if we stay in CT. Headbands and shades. We've both talked about making a habit out ofwearing onethough. We avoid highways and busier multi-lane roads, too.
If I go into Mass or longer trips I wear one because I have to. However if you look up the helmet law in massachusetts it states that riders and passengers have to wear a helmet but the law doesn't say WHERE. Strap the bucket to your leg and if you get pulled over, have a copy of the law in your pocket.....LOL! I often thought of doing that just for grins.
I'm all about pro choice. I can't stand being told what to do because of lucrative insurance lobbies. I always say, if I wanted a babysitter, I'd ask for one!
Have 2 kids who r my world, so yes i wear a helmet. If no kids, no helmet.
funny how them critters can change your attitude towards life. i actually just broke down and got myself a nice DOT helmet for the above reason. the family means a lot to me.
No choice over here it is a necessary evil although I've come off a couple of times and it did mean I still have a chin ! { cloud and silver lining thing I guess }
I wear a full faced helmetwith a blacked out windsrceen. I like to keep people guessing.
I am also into body armour. Spoke to a guy wearing this kind of stuffwho survived a 30 footcatapult from his bike landing on his faceon the pavement. He walked away with a scratched leg, a broken helmet, and a totaled bike.
I live in west virginia and have to wear a helment and plus i have a touch of artheritis? And cannot ware any helment that picks up wind,I have found the full face helps me a lot since i dont like windshields.
From the law enforcement side and IMO I know this isn't a poll but if it were, you would have to include the past riders that reside in the cemeteries through out the USA and the bikers that are in a vegetable state in some nursing home also. It's very sad that the biker that takes that last ride due to a cager who blew the stop sign, light, or whatever thinks that damn,,,,, if I would have just put the helmet on, whatever!!! I don't like the government telling me that I have to wear a helmet, it should be my choice on my time and I would chose to ride with a helmet because there is a better chance of getting back on the bike to ride again if there was an accident.
Yes I do wear a helmet 1/2 helmet in town full on the open road
