In Sweden we have to use helmets.

And if I hadn't have one last year i wouldn't be alive today.
I had to make a second choise to crash with a meeting carin my lane or drive out from the road witch was my choice. The speed was about 35 mph and I got not so little injuried (ribs, lung, shoulder e.t.c.) I was wearing an integral helmet and that saved all my face and probably my life. The helmet (fiberglass) was REALLY injuried after crashing in the road but the head not.

So in my opinion, it's only stupid to not wear one when you drive if you like your life.

No, this isn't a poll.

Nine times out of ten it's the first question I'm asked when I tell someone I ride. I hear that question almost every day! Not, what do you ride, how long have you been riding, what color is your bike, how many miles have you ridden, or anything like that. No, it's "Do you wear a helmet?"

I then feel obligated to tell them that I don't and why I don't and defend my decision.

The next question is usually, "Do you go to that biker bar down on US 1?" (Reni's Rooster which has been there for over 40 years and is having to close down in the next few months, gonna be one helluva party!)

Anyway, thanks for letting me vent. I just get tired of being asked that question.
Anybody know the name of the woman who was an influential anti-helmet law activist in Florida?

I heard she was instrumental in getting the Florida laws repealed and then, ironically, died of head injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident (she wasn't wearing a helmet).

This is NOT advocacy one way or the other. I just want to read more about her. What's her name?

Thanks.
I found some info... no thanks to any of you, though.

Living in Pa I still wear, helps with bugs birds and rain. I find riding a P bike with big lights on the front I can move left laner over with a helmet on then them seeing my gray hair in the wind.

I wear a full face helmet every time I get on a bike, even a ride around the house. I have an aversion to eating through a straw.

3/4 100% of the time. Its the law in Michigan. They have been trying to repeal it the last few years.

Just got back from a Florida vacation. It's just so strange seeing riders without helmets.

Michigan may repeal it, but my wife won't. If momma ain't happy, nobody's happy.

I am a true believer in AGATT. My only accident in 38 years of riding was going 20mph and happened about 3 blocks from home. So much for thinking that you dont need the helmet at slow speeds or just for riding around the block huh?My bike was totalled and I have permanent nerve damage in my right hand due to an old lady hitting the gas coming out of an alley and nailing me as I rode by her. Hubbys one accident in 50 years of riding happened when he got rearended on the freeway. CHP said if he didnt have on all the gear he did that he would not have made it. 13 days ICU-3 weeks hospitalized 6 motnhs off work at home. I agree that everyone has a choice to make but beware that since there have been so many accidents in which riders are not wearing helmets and sustianed major injuries a lot of insurance companies are talking about dropping bikers completely and those that offer coverage will have caveats- I think it will be something like if the police report says there was no helmet or a non legal helmet the insurance will not have to pay the bills. In hubbys case those bills were in excess of $800,000. and would have ruined the rest of our lives if we had not had insurance coverage.
