Hi All, I am getting a strange noise coming from the right side of my bike. Kind of sounds like it is coming from the cone area of the motor, but hard to tell I have loud pipes it. To me it sounds like a heat shield tinny vibrating sound. I have taken the pipes off and checked all the welds. They all look fine I get it when I rev the motor and let off any one have any ideas of were to check. It is a 2006 FXDIC with Samson pipes.
It sounds like you have the same problem that I have, I described it as a can full of BBs rolling around. What I found after a couple of trips to different dealers is it is a normal noise( on mine at least) one dealer took me over to his bike and it sounded close to the same noise, mine was a little louder, but the same noise. Might suggest checking out a few bikes with about the same mileage as yours, before fretting over what might be normal. Good Luck, hope it turns out to be nothing.

I had the same noise - sounds like loose baffles in the mufflers, or marbles bouncing around in a can.
I've heard it's due to torque pulses that are not completely smoothed by the compensator sprocket, a byproduct of the longer stroke, and worse on the 96' engines.
Mine was so bad it took the enjoyment out of riding the bike.
I put Redline Shockproof in the tranny and it all but eliminated the noise. It clings to the metal parts in the tranny better than anything else I've found and quiets the metal to metal sound.
