Ok, so I have an 05 FXD, and I have the most of the motor apart besides the bottom end. I was trying to get some feed back on what would be the best way to do the 95 build... should I..
bore the jugs and get the heads worked
or should I go ahead and buy new jugs and heads...??
Any and all feed back would be great, I am kinda young and I am trying to save as much money as possible!!
get your existing cylinders bored to match the pistons - better than buying a big bore set of cylinders.
if you are wanting better heads, i would also recommend getting the existing heads ported rather than simply buying a set of performance heads. you can get big boyz on this site to do a straight forward porting job that is both economical and a performance improvement. you can get higher end head porting done by several reputable companies if you are looking for big performance, but they are expensive.
might consider the "hippo" build mentioned on many of the forums.
also look at a complete package from head-quarters, hillside cycle, gmr, etc - mild head porting, cylinder boring, perhaps ignition system, cams to match desired compression and riding style.
drdave pretty much sums sums it up. Bore your current cylinders and have your stock heads ported. Talk to your porter about pistons, cams, what type of riding you do before you buy anything. GMR, Big Boys, Head Quarters, Branch, and a few other names have been mentioned on this site with good results.
