Pulled the trigger today!
Got approved for a loan for a 2008 Candy sunglo red Fatbob, very excited, this is my first Harley, but have a Triumph and a Kawasaki, love all bikes and expect to love the Harley (never even ridden one tho!). Pick it up next week, is a stage 1 upgrade pretty much mandatory? I like loud pipes, but not too loud heard a youtube video of Vance and Hines Big Radius sounded nice, or should I just do the screaming eagle slip-ons or the rush slip-ons?
Congrats on the new toy!!!
Slip-ons are good, full exhaust is always better. You'll get 500 different set-ups and opinions on here. Just listen to some clips, go the dealer and listen to some bikes. See what you like, and go that route.

If the bike runs great stock, and it does don’t fix it.
Unless you have to go faster that is.
You can add Rinehart’s slip-ons for the rumble.
The gas mileage won’t take a dump on you either.
IMO
If you need noise, get the bike and and an inexpensive set of slip-ons to fix the noise need for a short while. This will give you time to decide what you want to put on it by listening to other's exhaust. Much cheaper this way than to spend money on trial and error.
A complete exhaust will cost you a grand or more if done right. Spend that$1000.00 getting what you want, not what you think you want or what someone else says you want.

I'd say run it stock to see how you like it. You may be happy and save some bucks. And if you want to upgrade, you will really feel the difference

I've got nearly a thousand miles on a stock bike, all I've done is add a luggage rack, no slip ons, no Stage 1, etc.
I'm very happy. Unless you want to challenge other bikes to racs off the stoplight, or just go stupid fast all around and hurt yourslf, I think that th stock bike will suit you fine. Don't know how aggressive you want to ride, etc. (if you really want speed and high speed handling, why buy a Fat Bob?) You'll find out in a few hundred miles what to do.

Congrats on the new ride. If you just change the slip ons you dont need a download (stage 1). When I got my Fat Bob nobody had done any mods since they had just come out....I took mine home...pulled the baffles and punched out the center plug and removed the packing....that helped a little....but I knew I wanted more....I ordered the 1st set of Rush Slash Out mufflers with 1.75' baffles....those were really nice....then one of the great members here gave me a set of 2.0' baffles after replacing his with a full exhaust. I have no plans on changing mine now. I love the sound, I have no desire for a different exhaust, my bike goes plenty fast for me so I will leave it without doing a download.
