I've been selling quick detach backrests for about 2 yrs now and have never herd of them being stolen, and our would probibly be the easiest to take. I wouldn't worry about it too much if I were you.

Get the quick-detach sideplates. The get HD part #46063-98 (one) or #46106-00 (pair) locks for detachables.

I have the detachable back rest w/luggage rack. Mine do rattle when not used and nothing on the luggage rack. I take a black plastic zip tie and wrap it around the mechanism and cinch it down. Takes out 90% of the rattleing. Although I do have to cut it off when I want to go solo. I also had one turn signal with docking hardware that would not tighten up and would rattle. Made a C clip out of a lock washer and installed it to take up the slack, works great.

I definately prefer the QR since my OL does not ride with me all the time. I have always heard that what is quick on is also quick off. They would have to uy the mounting hardware for their own bike if they did steal it. I have heard of alot of people stealing the HDremovable seat screws.
