Default turn 96a into 96b

is it possible to turn your uncounterbalanced engine into the counterbalanced version and still fit it into the dyna frame? just curious. brian

Yep................
pull one of your spark plugs out , you'll get the exact same effect. a gutless, smooth running motor.

Remember, on a Dyna, when the engine smoothes out.............shift!

the "B" motor is "b"alanced , which means they put giant weights on the "flywheels" yes, it makes them run a little "smoother" and yes, they make less snot...

the "A" motor is free to wobble and jump around as it pleases, that is why it has rubber bushings where it mounts to the frame and rubber in the risers (typically) that is why the call it a rubber mount bike.

FYI, Dynas are not the only rubber mounts bikes, there are other's but the most recent popular example would be the road king.

It doesn't seem like anyone directly answered your question so I'll try.Yes you could theortically put counter weights in your TC 88/96 "A" motor and it would be doubley smooth.I've never heard of anyone doing it so I have no idea what it would cost or how difficult it would be labor wise but i'm pretty sure it could be done.Depending on cost you might be better off trading in on a Softail.

The counter balance in the "B" motor is accomplished by usingdifferent cases than used for the"A" motor.

It isnot a weight on the crankshaft but a gear on the crankshaft that drives a chain thatdrives two weighted shafts in front of and behind the crankshaft to offset the vibration of the loping firing of the cylinders in the V-twin configuration.
You might figure out how to add weight to the crankshaft to accomplish this but I would imagine that you would also have to grind away at the "A" case for clearance, thus weakening bearing supportsomewhere, and deal with oil distribution as well. I don't think it could be done easily.
It might be easier to figure out how to get a "B" motor in a Dyna frame. I don't think that would be accomplished easily, either.
