Milwaukee, April 23, 2008 (Reuters) The Harley-Davidson Motor Company (HDI) yesterday announced the retirement of a long standing favorite. The Dyna Wide Glide will no longer be offered as part of the 2009 product line. First introduced in 1980 as the “first factory chopper,” the Wide Glide has long been a favorite of Harley owners. Harley also announced the roll out an entirely new model, called the Dyna Wide Bob FXWB.
Motor Company CEO Jim Ziemer said that the great success of the Dyna Street Bob and the Dyna Fat Bob suggests a strong trend in the marketplace that Harley-Davidson would be foolish not to exploit. Ziemer also announced that beginning in 2010, the Dyna Super Glide and Dyna Low Rider models will be retired in favor of the all new Dyna Super Bob FXSB and Dyna Low Bob FXLB. All models will only be available in Black Denim since internal research has shown that this is the fastest color.
Analysts speculated that Harley will soon expand this naming convention beyond the Dyna line. This could mean the launch of bikes such as the Electra Bob, Ultra Bob and the Soft Bob. A reporter visiting a Harley-Davidson also noticed that each sales person insisted that they be called “Bob.” “It was a little weird, actually.” She reported.
