Engine Whine

I have a '92 FXR Low Rider with about 26,000 miles on it here in AZ. From time to time when it's cold and I first start it up it will whine after I hit the key and doesn't fire right up, almost like a loose bearing sound from the starter. Then, at times, I can be idling and here just a faint whine then nothing. Sorta weird, any one have any thoughts?

if it was just on start up i would say starter is going... but i dunno!

CCardiff, sounds like your starter mechanism is on it's way out. Remove the primary gear case and the starter and repair as needed. If you leave it, the damage can only increase.
