The image below is one that I had photoshopped onto the bike before I actually bought one. I went into the photoshopping area and asked one of the folks to do it for me so I could see what it would look like on my bike. It's pretty close to the one I actually have and doesn't look too bad.
The important thing is that my wife (and daughter) love it. I think it takes her mind off the fact that she's only sitting on a very small pad..lol She did actually say she couldn't see me putting a big ugly seat on it...
Just my opinion and you all know the old saying on opinions but I went with a tall backrest on the back of my WG at my wife's request. She looked at several different ones and this was the one she was most comfortable. She can lean back and relax and enjoy the ride now. I use detachable hardware so when she don't ride I can take it off. Also bought a sundowner seat for her comfort. Don't particulary care for the look but she can ride forever. When she is not on the bike the sissybar comes off and I replace the sundowner with a leather sidekick. I like the look of that setup much better, but IMO it was more important for her to feel comfortable and relaxed on the bike. Hope this helps.
Well I guess I can drop in and say some things. We have had great feedback about the backrest strength. Like the Plug N Play ours mounts under the seat to the fender. Ours installs and removes in under 2 mins. If you can email me a pic of your rack we might be able to tell if it will work with our backrest... we did the same thing with a guy that had a fat boy. Theres a lot of great feedback about them scattered on the forum and you would be helping out a site sponsor [8D]
You can do a mini bar like I have and it will keep her from sliding off, but she'll be much happier with one she can lean back against (I also have a taller one for two-up and as a long trip bag holder). Just do a detachable one and everybody's happy (except maybe your wallet). Here's a pic of my SGwith the little bar by my bro-in-law's WG with the taller one that my sister loves. I'm not big on sissy bars in general, but they look fine on Wide Glides IMO.
Top, I'm with you on this, but I have to say, I just added the detach with a low back rest and my wife loves it. She says that she doesn't feel as if she's going to slide off the back any more.

I think it's great that a site sponsor actually reads these threads to see what potential customers are looking for. I think it's even better that you actually chimed in and offered some help.
Just doin what I can. Works out great by being here for me cause I've learned so much from the forum and this way Im here to help when I can. I pretty much have a sweet job, design ads, chat on forums, and talk to other riders.
