I got the one with the Gel insert.
I was also wondering how much of a difference the gel would make. The over all opinion is that it is not a seat for long days of riding, will the addition of the gel ($$) make it good for touring as well as everyday?

I have a two-up that moves me forward (not a fan) and the stock 06 SB seat I have done 700 mile days on no prob. Just looking to be a little lower - the bare bones looks cool as sh#t.

Ihave the BareBones with gel on my 07 FatBoy. Like most have said, it moves you down and slightly back. The gel was a must for me sinceI have no meat on my ***. I've done 100 milers and no problem.

Rauzer, I ordered mine from Eastern Performance and had it within three days, check and see if they have it in stock.

It definitely moved me back compared to my stock seat on my Fat Bob but that's what I wanted. Further back and lower into the bike. I did 400 miles this past weekend over two days. By Sunday when we got home I was ready to give my backside a rest. Will probably switch out to my stock seat for our trip to NC next month unless I can find a gel pack seat that will work on top of the Bare Bones. It's a very comfortable seat for around town and moderate length rides (a few hours) but not much longer than that.

I didn't get the gel because someone told me it doesn't make enough difference to justify the cost. Probably just their opinion but I wasn't looking for a touring seat anyway, I have one of those already (unfortunately - I hate the looks of it - but it's comfy). I was also told that the gel can get really firm when it's cool out and who wants to sit on a block of ice? The nice thing about the bare bones is that it's small enough to stuff in a traveling pack or saddle bag if you have them and carry with you on a long trip when you might want to use a bigger seat to get where you are going and then switch to the bare bones to cruise when you get there.

With all that said, I'll add this - if you can do 700 miles on a stock SB seat, you can handle the stock bare bones as-is. I was using a stock bob seat on my FXDC before I bought the bare bones and could go nowhere near that far. It varies by person and by ****, I guess, but for me, I can go about an hour before I need a break. But, even then, it only needs to be a brief break - a few minutes. Lepera markets this seat as a "bar hopper" and that's all you should expect from it. If you get more out of it, then good for you. But even the manufacturer doesn't expect you to. It's very comfortable for it's size, however. This past weekend, I rode to the beach 2 hours away on my HD Tallboy seat. Never had a moment of discomfort and rode all the way there. Coming back, I used the bare bones just to see how far I could go with it. After the first hour and 5 minutes, it instantly went from comfy to "I've got to stop". We pulled over for about 5 minutes and I was good to go the rest of the way home. I'm pleased with mine.

It was probably due to fact that everything went numb after the first 500.

Thanx everyone for all of the info. Plain Bare Bones it is!

I called them, since they are only20 mins from my house. They only carry ones for Softails at this time. [&:]
