When I bought my 07 FXDL at the end of the model year the salesman told me it was identical to the 08 except for paint colors. Looking at pictures of the two models, however, I can see that the air cleaner cover is different. There may be other differences that my untrained, non-x-ray vision having eyes did not see.

Don't skimp on the service manual.
I wouldn't want my Doctor using the "Gray's Guide to the Female Anatomy" as a reference while he is doing my vasectomy.
