My wife almost always uses her iPod on bike trips. I generally go without, but on longer trips, we have a headphone splitter (just a Y cable) and both have a set of Shure earphones. These are AWESOME headphones. They are noise isolating, I've had mine in up to 80+ MPH. You don't need the music loud, they are extremely small, and really drown out the wind noise of hours on the highway.
The last ride we were out on I brought them along and can state that the wife queued up some Alman Bros and just a perfect volume so you could hear music, wind, and the V&H rumble.
There is so much good "riding" music out there that my Ipod just seems like a good 'companion'... I wear a 3/4 helmet and the wind noise can get quite intense. Having the ipod just reduces the effect of the wind and I can still hear everything around me, the music just adds another more entertaining dynamic to the ride...[sm=biker.gif][sm=lol.gif]
i have been up on this mountain now for 10 years, My house and barn are off the road some 1100 feet, Our road is the world 's bestpoker run route, (WHY ????) Well every Saturday and Sunday starting in April thou October I hear a lot of Bikes coming up the Mountain, when they get to my location 3 out of 10 bikeshave radios on , That's all I hear. back in the 70's I rode a AMF sportster The old School boys would steal your bike if you had a radio on it,and chop it up . because it wasn't cool.
Think about it ,10 Harley's rumblings up the road and insteadof pipes you read the weather report or Celine Dijon singing .
What is coming next?? yellow or Pink Motor cycles.?? Biker chicks wearing snowmobile suits.???
I said it before "I listen to my pipes and think about what I'm doing"
I don't have a pair for myself, yet.
I do have a friend (really, one) that rides a street glide that got a pair of custom molded ear plugs with a built in earphones and he is over the moon on their quality.
Customer ear plugs with built in speakers
On long rides I have to have something to kill the wind noise, it just kills my ears so this is what I am going with. http://earplugstore.stores.yahoo.net/chmisearph.html
Yes at $200 a set, that is expensive but I need something that will stay in at 70 - 85mph and well earbuds will not, but these will.
I can appreciate some saying to ride and listen to the wind and exhaust, well after 50 miles I am in need of something else, something different something that is not so "relaxing" in a sense. Now for me the wind noise starts to kill my ears but besides that I need something to break up the constant, if that makes sense
When I want music, other than the twin cam music that is, I use a MP3 player or cellphone and some in the ear plug/speakers(SkullCandy).
Cuts down the wind noise and allows the music to be played at a fairly low volume.
Isaid it before "I listen to my pipes and think about what I'm doing"
Well I guess some of us are just talented enough to be able to listen to music and think about whatwe are doing.
NowI don't like music blasting from bikes or cars either for that matter, why should I be subjected to listening to what others like? Ear buds or phones though are alright with me.
Looks like you got more than your share of smart a$$ answers this time eh Bro?
I'll give you the real answer. Lots of people listen to tunes while they ride.
Those who don't have a bagger with a radio usually listen to an MP3 player with earbuds.
You should be able to hook up to your high tech phone or if you want I'll send you a little MP3 player you can use.
Just say the word, Bud! I'm happy to help you out.
Thanks Bro. I will try the MP3 with ear buds. MaybeI will like it, maybe I won't. As for the smart azz comments, I don't mind. After all I did ask for opinions. It was entertaining. Ride safe Bro!
