Default progressive 412 shock question

I am planning on changing out my stock shocks on my 06 Street Bob and before ordering the shocks, would like some input from riders riding two-up most of the time. I weigh 185 , wife 140 and we carry15 - 30 lbs of luggage. We want a nice smooth ride without bottoming out. Wife already complains of how rough the bike is now. I know most of her problem stems from the footrest being mounted to swingarm, but I can't change that.

Well, I've gone through a few sets of shocks and finally settled on the Progressive 418's.
I am on a Superglide, weigh 155 and wife weighs 120. Hated the stock shocks so I put on a set of 412 12"HD and the difference was enormous. The wife did complain about the sometimes rough ride on bad roads but not near as much as the stock ones. I decided to lower the bike an inch and with the recommendations of a few friends decided to go for a set of 11.5" 418's. Wow ....... wish I had done this in the first place. Much better ride than the 412's. Smoother and a lot more comfortable.
I know they are a lot more expensive but they are so much better that I don't mind paying the difference.
I still have the 12" 412's if you are interested. Planning on selling them later this summer either way.
If you can afford it go with the 418's, you won't regret it.

easy, a few thoughts for you. My wife first complained about too much vibration felt in her butt and her back. Couldn't do much for the back and she still complains for a few minutes about feeling the "bees" but says it goes away after a while. For the butt, I had to get a thick seat (HD Tallboy) and she was happy. I also have Kuyakyn Retro pegs for her which have the rubber ISO pads on them to help with the feet. Shocks are not really going to help with the vibration. However, they will help with the bumps. Progressive recommends heavy duty versions of their shocks if you will carry a total weight over 200 pounds most of the time. So, that's what I bought and am glad I did. I weigh over 200 by myself. I first put them on the lowest setting and on my first decent length ride, I rode through a low spot in the pavement at about 35 mph and felt them bottom out. I clicked them up to the 2nd position and they are now perfect. No bottoming out and a nice ride. I don't get a lot of bouncing anymore, especially on uneven pavement (roads are crappy around here from all the semi traffic) in curves. The shocks provide enough support that I can hold a nice line all the way through a high speed turn without having to correct with steering when I hit an uneven spot. So, the straight line ride is nice but you notice the most improvement in handling in the turns. Weekend before last, we went to a rally and rode all weekend 2-up with the shocks set on "2" and they felt great.

By the way, my stock shocks were 12.6" and I went with the 12" 412 HD's and lowered the rear about a half inch or so. Very happy with it.

Thanks, I just ordered the 412 HD full covered black and hope I won't be sorry for not getting the regular springs.Since I ride 90% of the time two up, Ifigure the HD was the way to go. If the ride is too stiff I will just change out the springs. Time will tell.

I just put the 412's HD on my 02FXD, the solo ride is firmer and I noticed more twitchiness on rain grooves than the stockers, but two up on #2 setting is a major improvement. Went with the chrome and exposed springs, looks pretty nice with a vivid black paint.
