Default progressive 412 questions

Can anyone help me pick the right height for my new progressives. i'm gonna be running the metz 200 on back and riding 2 up. I didn't really wanna go lower but it seems to be hard to find a set of black progressives that aren't. Also whats a good price for them I found them fpr 195 on ebay. But again they are the 11's

I'm running 11" with an 18" rim and a 180x55. The 200 is the same overall diameter and would fit under my WG fender. I rode 1000+ miles two-up with this set up.

I have 11's also. They're pretty rough solo but great two up. Huge handling difference though!!!

Can you guys indicate whether you are running the Heavy Duty versions or not.

I'm also interested in the 11" 412s, majority solo @165 lbs, but every so often with the little lady @125 lbs. I don't think I need the Heavy Duty's.

Will anyone confirm? And how does the ride quality differ anyhow? Thanks.

Progressive recommends HD's if you carry over 200 lbs most of the time. Doesn't sound like you want HD's. If you do add more weight, just click up the preload a notch or two. I believe the loaded HD's ride similar to the non-HD's but are a bit stiffer ride when not loaded over 200 lbs similar to what trampsinger is saying. On the other hand, if you are stuffing the fender and don't want to chance tire contact, you could go with the HD's since you are looking at 11" models and just keep them at the lowest preload setting. When I first installed mine, I put them on the lowest setting and bottomed out on my 12"ers so they aren't terribly stiff, even though I weight 240. I clicked them up to 2 and they are great 1 up or 2 up now.

I love my 11" Progressives. I only weigh 160lbs so they're set on the softest setting and I don't find them rough riding at all during routine city or hiway riding. Surprise bumps hit a little harder than theOEM 12"ers, but I don't hit them that frequently.

I have the black 11" Heavy Duties and am 185 lbs. and never ride 2 up -- got the HDs on purpose for the improved handling and didn't care if they were stiff or firm - in fact prefer it, and if I ever want to go 2 up, I can do it easily by changing preload settings as needed. Absolutely no regrets and no worries with bottoming out, but I wouldn't recommend this to just anyone. However, if you like the hunkered down cornering of a sports car and aren't looking for a cushy ride then these are what I'd recommend, and no noticeable difference on the highway, just secondary roads where you feel every bump but handle the twisty bits like nothing else.
