RE: fuel injector changes on 06s
Strike Three. Went back to the stealer to pick up my bike and hear the inevitable, "We found nothing wrong with your bike," answer. So, they told me that they road it and all was well. They did have it "burp" coming into the stealership, but not enough to warrant an injector swap. They gave me a customer service # to the Moco to call and see if they would approve.[sm=wtf.gif] I told them that I'll just buy the new ones from online. They told me not to because that's a warranty item.[sm=dontgetit.gif] I thought that is why I brought the bike to you. Anyway, they told me that this is just the way the air-cooled engine is. Exact words: If you would have bought a Sportster it would be doing that all the time, feel lucky. So, I take this as: product deficiencies are acceptable and expected in the various bikes. So not only is the Sportster a chick bike [sm=joke.gif] but it is known and accepted as a crappy running ride. And, I will venture to say, since the Dyna is the next lowest in the price chain, we should expect some crappiness, more than a Softail but less than a Sportster. Am I right all holy Harley technically trained gods of the stealership? I was talking to the guy closing me out when buster badass from the other day (see previous reply) came out to interrupt my telling them how the other day another guy there told me my symptoms fit the swap and I should do it. I admitted I was skeptical and that one of their own techs convinced me to get it done. Well buster badass interrupted that he did not say that and I calmly reply, "Before you come busting in interrupting me I was talking about him (while pointing at the little guy acknowledging that event)." I walked out and told them they lost a customer. Oh, and you ask who just struck out..........
Augusta Harley, off I-20, Georgia. Better known as Suck-gusta Harley. If you want good customer service head 80 miles East to Hog Heaven in South Carolina. Worth the trip.
P.S. I do have to say it's a shame that their Sales Staff and Parts Department, from my experience, was great. Their Service SUCKS. Maybe that is why I'm so disgusted. I expected so much more. Typically, if I had an issue I would have brought it up to the managers and/or owners. I just was so deflated by the lack of service and their questioning of me and where I purchased the bike, the slip-ons, the A/C, etc. Mother Huckers. And I'm pissed mostly at myself for not listening to the natives of this area. I was new to Augusta and trusted this stealership when locals all warned me to look elsewhere.
This was mentioned before. But, what injectors do the 04 and 05 efi dyna's have? Why is this problem just occurring with the 06 models? I know there were many changes between the 05 and 06 models, but, not with the efi systems on these bikes were there???????????????

Apparently `06 is a new year for a smaller injector. In the limited info I've found (in the bagger forum) the max flow rates did change. It was originally posted in grams per second and I converted them to the more familiar pounds per hour. I don't know which is more at fault, the injectors or the mapping.
"The 05 and earlier injectors had higher flow rates than the 06
stock injectors. 06 are 3.91 grams per second flow rated, and the 05 and
earlier are 4.35. The 25 degree injectors are rated at 4.89 gm/s."
i talked to a guy in the bar and he has an 05 that does the same thing mine does i told him about the injectors and hes going to see if he can get his changed too
This injector issue.....is it just causeing cold start problems......or is it causeing the surging issue as well? I am only applying common sense here....not technical knowledge, so I may be wrong but...... If the surging only occurs at a certain speed/RPM/Gear (mine is a slight surge, 2nd gear, 20-25 mph....i have no tach) That seams to me to be a MAP issue. If it were an injector thing, then would you not see that problem at the same rpm (throttleposition, regardless of what gear/ speed you were traveling? I can see the cold start issue occuring due to the injectors, with insufficient fuel at cold start/idle. And this would explain why some have the issue and others dont, since we all live in different climates. Furthermore, iftheproblems are beingfixed with a SERT/DFO/ect, using the stock injectors........... Is anyone else seeing it this way? My thinking is that the EPA regs are forcing the certain "MAP numbers" and the injectors are a band aid vice a cure. Beleive me, I wish theinjectors were thecure, since itis free, and an aftermarket EFI controller is at least 300 bucks. Luckily my surging is minimal, and with the factory D/L, slip ons, and factory stock A/C I am running good, and not over lean. But, when I get the cash together I plan to put the SE A/C back on and get a SERT or somthing similar. Unless I see some feedback here saying the injector swap cured the issues of surging, I probably will hold of on the swap. From the numbers just posted, it seems the 25 injectors are as much richer as the new ones are leaner.........

He will probably have to buy them, as the service bulletin only addressed the 06 models....
Yeah, I just have the slight surge at 20-25mph.... Throttle response is great, accelerationisgreat...no popping or missing at all. Really it runs and sounds grerat...minus that slight surge. And if it surgeing and I twist the throttle a tiny bit, it goes away. The surging is in second with the throttle ever so slightly twisted. At speed above 25 its smooth as butter.
However, that slight surge, and the fact my front fender cracked in half bothers me. The dealer said it musthave cracked when the pushed the rivet through, and the paint hid it....for a little while. At least they are replacing it for me under warranty. It should be here in a week. Until then I am rideing the Sporty around.
