Niterider Ieds change the ratio from 14.7:1 to 14.2:1. Xieds change it to 13.8:1.

Unfortunately I am an 06 so I have to order the Dyna Oied which only takes me to 14.2.1

 

Hey all, here are my experiences for the past week, so if I can save someone the same headache then its worth it.

I put them on my 07 Street Bob. I first tried them on with my K&N and Fat Cat after running the PCIII. I tried just about every canned map to make it run right, but never felt smooth enough, so I was always chasing my tail, which is why I got the XIEDs.
Took off the PCIII and installed the XIEDs. They were not able to compensate for the kind of flow that the2-1 and upgradedairbox had.Ran too lean. Had alot of surging, decel pop and heat. I then ran them with the stock airbox and Fat Cats. Ran alot better. The XIEDs have much better throttle response and run so smooth. I used a infrared thermometer and noticed an idling temp on the front cylinder of 324 degress. It was a 70 degree day and had rode about 20 miles. I know now that is not a good way to measure engine temps, but with no way of measuring oil temps, it is what I went with. I got nervous, because of the temps, so Idecided to take off the Fat Cat and put back on my stock headers with S/E II slip ons and K&N. I also changed out my oil for AMSOIL full synthetic. Again ran very smooth, but now was without the same sound and pull of the Fat Cat. The temps were about 20 degrees cooler at the same spot, which could have beendue to the full synthetic. At that time I still did not know that the temps I was taking were not very reliable. I was pointing the laser just left of the spark plug. So, I took back off the stock pipes, S/E IIs and put back on my Fat Cat and PCIII with the K&N (wher I had started). I am running a map that FuelMoto sent me for a 2-1 and after my experiences with the XIEDs, its running decent. Not as good as the XIEDs, but I wanted to run the upgraded airbox with my Fat Cat for performance purposes. I have since found out that the infrared temps I was taking on the cylinder heads does not show actual engine temps.
My final thoughts if you're able to figure out what the heck I just typed: The bike runs best with the XIEDs. Runs smooth, crisp and performance isgood. You may be able toget away with anupgradedair kit andslip ons, but you will be pushing it.If you're gonna runafull aftermarket exhaust with the stock airbox, you should be ok. An upgraded airkit with full aftermarket exhaust is not a good idea, will probably run too lean. Definetly if you have a 2-1.
If you're looking for a smoother, cooler running engine with crisp throttle response andmore noise, use the XIEDs with stock airbox and slip ons and your bike will run better than stock and any aftermarket fuel management system you can buy. Again, some are running slip ons with an upgraded airkit and are having great results. You'll have to experiment yourself. If you're looking to get all the HP and TQ out of your motor then a fuel management system with dyno tune is probably what your after.

There is still some debate on this,... I am awaiting word from Steve at Nightrider, as I am one with "transient ECM codes" P0131 and P0151..running stg1 download, K&N hi flo AC and Python2-1.
I took out my baffle and the codes go away, but bike runs better with it in,better torque at mid range.
There is talk of valve over-lap issues and IED's, need to change the cams....??
I leave my IED's on as I can FEEL the improvement and the codes come and go, my plugslook toasty brown and fuel milage still down t about 44 from 46, a good sign. I don't worry about the codes.
I did not get the codes until Iput on the 2-1's

 

Running Rinehart slipons, SE AC and the Stage 1 download. I'm thinking about adding the Xieds. Anybody have experience adding to this setup?

Bike screams now but does pop on decel some....and feels pretty hot.

With my experience you should be a perfect candidate for the XIEDs. With your set up it should make a significant difference. It should get rid of your popping, give you crisper throttle response and all around smoother running motor.

I'm glad your having better results. My plugs were greyish white with my K&N and 2-1. Did not run well once it reached riding temps. My front cylinder temps while idling were 334 (with infrared thermometer). I could definetly tell things weren't running well. When I switched back to the stock airbox my plugs were like yours, a nice tannish color. I don't think there would too much of apipe difference between the Python and D&D. Have you tried running the stock airbox with your 2-1?? I put back on my PCIII, but I'm thinking of switching back to stock airbox and XIEDs. I miss the smoothness. I'm definetly keeping my 2-1, so any decisions I make will be centered around that.
I'm not interested in changing out the cams in mine. I would rather run the PCIII than go through all that, at least right now. I think I would rather get a dyno tune than do all that.
If my statement about running aftermarket full exhaust and hi flow A/C with XIEDs running too lean is wrong, I apologize. Its just my experiences that I'm going by..

He knows my set up and issues, I am hapy to be a "beta-site" ( did I say guinea pig ?)

Anyway, I am giving these a try and I'll report back.

To all:
IED's are an awesome upgrade for the money, there seems to be some issues when you are running 2-1 and Hiflo AC, but these are being worked out, nightrider is one of the most helpful and customer oriented operations I hve ever dealt with!

 

I'm running the Xied's with V&H straight shots and the K&N high flow replacement filter. The bike runs great, smooth at idle, more mid range power and the sound is deeper. Most importantly it doesn't overheat anymore ..... stays cool even when idling in traffic for long periods of time. I for one am sold on these little gems. I plan on doing the Stage 1 download and then dyno it next weekend weather permitting.
Great bang for buck.

 

Thanks JLB. Ordered a set of the Xieds last night. Will post a review once I get them installed. Would like to have them installed before I push off on a 600 mile trip to Northern Michigan this weekend.
