I was cruising along a nice road home on a perfect day after work when suddenly I hear......
Clang...ching ching....POP!!!!!
Then the bike felt like it was falling apart. It was very difficult to control. I thought at first I had a major mechanical issue.
Luckily I was on a straight away. I slowed quickly and was able to stop. I look down and see I have a flat rear tire.
I carefully inspected the entire bike while I was waiting for roadside assistance and found no missing parts. Apparently, I rode over a piece of metal with the front tire and kicked it up under the bike which accounted for the Clang....ching ching sound.
It must have landed under my rear tire on edge because it caused a 1 inch slash in the tire and tube resulting in the loud POP.
My tire blew up like popping a balloon.
While I was waiting I walked back at least 100 yards to see what I ran over but I never found it. I never saw what I hit. I was sure something fell off the bike but nothing is missing. Anyway, got a new tire and tube and Im on the road again. My wallets a little lighter, but I am happy I was on a straight away and not all the twisties in between. It could have been a lot worse.
I gotta tell ya, I have never had a tire explode atany speed and I was really suprised to see that flat tire. Ihonestly thought the bike was coming apart. I could only describe it like the feeling my front end and swing arm were falling off. It was very hard to keep a straight line. Ive had flats before but nothing like this.
My wife and me was on the I-5 near L.A. and blew out at 75.. we layed down and slid off the freeway and hit a gas station.. we was okay..but I shaved off the left side of the bike and had some rug burn to my left arm and left leg...
My bro came out with all the parts I needed and put me together right on the spot and I got on my ride to San Diego like I love my bro...
I hate a blow out.. prob the worst.. next to everything else thats bad..
That's one of the problems with tubed tires. They often blow out (catastrophic[]) as opposed to slower leaks with a puncture on tubeless tires. Oh , the price for having laced wheels.
