When I bought my bike. The guy told me all the extras that was on the bike. Engine mods were big bore kit (Which he said was installed before he bought the bike.), Andrews cam, and HyperCharger with K@N filter. How can I tell if I have the big bore kit installed. I,m sorta of green on engine mods, but I,m learning. Is there any way of looking and knowing if it has the big bore kit?
I would think that the big bore cylinders would have something stamped on them like Screaming Eagle Stage 2 etc. You could also go to the dealer and have them check the ECU program to check if it's got the stage 2 downloaded into it, if it does then you've got the big bore kit.
I would try asking this question in the evo forum. I think there are more gearheads there. But yeah I would think if it was a big bore kit, the jugs would say screaming eagle or something like that on them. I could be wrong though.
How about getting it dyno'd at a dealer or shop that has a dyno and dyno tech? The horsepower and torque should be substantially greater than the stock configuration.
no it wont necessarily have anything wrote on the jugs. its possible they just bored out the cylinders and put bigger pistons in. the simplest way would be for the original owner to produce reciepts , ifyou have doubts I think the dyno suggestion is an easy way to tell if there is any performance gains or you can pull the heads and measure the bore.
In a big boar kit they don't boar out the jugs, they replace them with a set of new, already larger (inside) jugs. They look the same on the outside so no way you can tell. Some guys go the extra mile and get the Screaming Eagle heads too. If someone has SE haeds on there you can be pretty sure they upgraded the jugs too. Have the tech take it for a ride. Any tech worth his salt can tell a 88 from a 95. Dyno would tell you with certainty.
Going big bore in the EVO was not nearly as common as with the TC. It is actually more common to stroke the EVO. For some reason I really doubt it is bigger that 1340.
