My base is going to start issuing god damnedSTICKERS for your bike to prove that you have taken the safety coarse. We have our MSF cards in our wallets and could easily pull that out with our military ID when going on base. But NO! I gotta stick some gawdy yellow sticker on my forks or downtubes. I ripped the VIN sticker off my downtube cause it looked stupid... seems like a waste now!
Devil, ACC started that already. I have this god awful f*&^ing stickerat the top ofmy forks (where it's almost square)!!! Only on the 5th side, not on the 91st yet!!! Tell me that's not yet another kick in the junk! [:@]
I do understand why they put so many regs in place, but come on now!!! I wear the stupid *** looking sh*t on base. After getting ready to ride, I feel like "Safety Man"! You're right too! They'll get you on a line of duty off base! If they wanted, they could even screw ya over on the gloves or reflective vest crap!
Like I said, I understand the regs, but all-in-all, YES, it pisses me off like you wouldn't believe!
That's why I don't ride on base. Whether the USAF likes it or not, I am a grown man.....you make your decisions and deal with the fallout. I have seen MANY military guys that ride without a helmet, it's their choice, and they will deal with that choice when they are ratted out by someone....
How come you don't have to wear a helmet when driving a convertible?
If you don't with a convertible, then you shouldn't have to on a trike right?
The regs aren't even very safe though. A plain white long sleeve shirt works for the regs during the day time. There's no requirement to even wear a riding jacket.
I refuse to ride on post as well...had a Soldier here at Hood get into a small wreck off post andhis commandergave him a Company GradeArt 15. However, the fatalities we have don't usually involve cars...they are mostly speedbikes going too fast and alcohol is involved with very young and inexperienced riders some just back from deployment.As a Brigade we lose more Soldiersto accidents than combat. We had one fatality on post in a parking lot! kid was just trying out his buddy's brand new crotchrocket. But as you all know if it doesn't make sense to me it makes perfect sense to the Army.
Article 15 for having an accident? He should have "demanded trial by court martial" as is his right under the UCMJ!!!....it would have been thrown out by the prosector.
I am a contractor that rides on base, the crap really does not bother me. I just throw a vest on over whatever I am wearing, they never say anything about my shoes and I already took the safety class. The Naval Safety Center folks just had some meetings here in NRFK with MSF to discuss some sport bike training classes. 8 people have been killed in motorcycle accidents this year and all were riding high powered sport bikes. Actually sounds like a good idea, and they are trying to address the problem with a better class for people that choose to ride the zip-splats.
What does **** me off is as a contractor here in NRFK I am only suppose to have stickers for one vehicle. They never bugged me about this before, but I just went to get new stickers for my bike and they refused me. I had to drive to another base pass office that was not packed with jerks and they issued me the stickers, but I missed half a day of work because of it.
I hate all the rules too. Here at Miramar in San Diego they are trying to outlaw even the icon and Harley orange vests and make the stupid traffic/comstruction worker orange net mandatory.
The only beef that I have with the "safety" gear is the bright reflective vest. I religiously wear a helmet, goggles, gloves, leather jacket, chaps, and heavy leather boots. Each of these items have saved a part of my body in some way, shape, or form.
Some of us had discussed what is more important than the vest and we think a working headlight is definately a must. Someone riding a bagger with a huge fairing on it cannot be seen no matter how much orange he has on his person. A good headlight is always visible.
