Default Fork Gaitor dryrot!

For those of you like myself with Street Bobs running the 1970 Triumph fork gaitors better check em for dryrot, and or throw some Armorall or some kind of protectant on them.I just looked at mine and noticed every single pleat is cracked.I guess I should have asked somebody if they were actually made in 1970.Oh well gives me an excuse to get those new ones actually made for a Dyna.

same thing happened to me... Armorall is actually the reason for the dry rot belive it or not... dries out the item you are using it on... i now use Pledge to clean them... works great!

Ed, I only had my Triumph gaitors for a week or two before I noticed the dry rot. The reason I replaced them in the first place was because one of them ripped during the install. Maybe they are from 1970? I got the Jammer gaitors made for our bikes. They are poly instead of the rubber. They look just as good as the day I installed them. Please note if you switch to the Jammer gaitors you may need to remove the chrome covers over the dust caps because the gaitors are molded in such a way as to fit over the sliders by about 2 inches. Here is the link to my original post which includes the Jammer part number.

Thanks for the link. I now have more projects on the back burner than I have time or money to complete.I should switch out the gaitors when I install the Progressive springs that have been sitting on my work bench for weeks.

Are they soft at all or are they a stiff plastic.

The Jammer gaitors are still pliable; not stiff. They are more glossy than the rubber boots and have a slick surface.
