Default HD MIRRORS

I bought some black short stem mirrors for my 2008 street bob and have a dumb question. What's the trick for the right side when the mirror goes into the blinker ? Anyone know how to repalce mirros ? I know this is dumb but I am as green as it comes. Thank you all for your patience.

Blacked Out,
The stock HD mirrors have stems on them (5/16th X 24). On the right (throttle) side this stem is secured with what HD calls a retainer (in the service manual) that also holds the ball stud for the signal mount. On the left side the stem is secured with an acorn nut, but passes through a ball receptacle that holds the ball stud at an offset. So if you replace mirrors with bolt ons instead of studs you can run the bolt through the ball receptacle on the left side no problem. On the right side I fabricated a stud to replace the stock HD stud. The challenge is that the mirror you have may not be the same thread as the 'retainer'. I used a 5/16th X 24 bolt, cut the head off, and used a die set to rethread half of it to 5/16X 18. The 18 side screwed into the mirror base, the stud went through the lever mount, and the retainer screwed onto the bottom part of the exposed stud.
Long story short, you need to replace that stud that was on the stock mirrors with an identically threaded one to secure that lamp housing underneath. I can scan the page out of the manual if you need it, but the picture may work. I have that stud, and am not using it since I re-located my signals to the fork. If you want it, I will mail it to you tomorrow. Third_left_eye hooked me up with the ball receptacle I needed to do my re-locate, so it's karma, man.

No. If you relo the signals, then you just mount the mirrors with the hardware that came with them.

You can do the signal relocation a couple of different ways:
1. Buy a relocation kit (includes the mounts, usually fork clamps)
2. Fab brackets out of flat stock like HOGRIDA_06 did in his post here: https://www.hdforums.com/m_2546488/m...tm.htm#2546955
3. Use the ball receptacle you have for one side, and get another from the dealer or forum member for the other side, then mount them like Beefy did in his post here: https://www.hdforums.com/m_2546488/m...tm.htm#2677761

I went with option 3 and painted the ball receptacles flat black. It looks good, and tucks the signals in tight to the fork.

i did #3 on mine but got a small brake cylinder boot from the auto parts store an cut it in half to cover the ball receptacles. gave it a more finished look IMO.
