Default Question about mirror stems and custom mirrors

I'm looking to replace my stock mirrors with something "cooler". The question I have, is that my stock mirrors have the threaded stud attached to the mirror arms. My bike has the right side turn signal attached to the lower part of the handle bars / right mirror stud.

What should I look for when ordering ? Most of the custom mirrors I've seen have a bolt that is seperate. How would I get the right turn signal to re-attach ?

Thanks.

I get your issue, I had just the opposite problem. When I moved the blinks down to the Aux light bar the studs were too long. I ended up cutting them off and using a chrome acorn nut to cover the end of the stud. Maybe you can buy what mirror you want and purchase separately a chrome bolt at the hardware store and cut off the head to get the length of stud you need.

Unless yours are different from the mirrors/signals i've seen on 4 different bikes now, no, the turn signal and stuff isn't threaded, nor is the hole that the mirror goes through. The switch housing should have a little nub that keeps the turn signal bracket from spinning backwards, and the mirror stem slides through everything.. switch housing, turn signal bracket, and it all gets held together with an acorn nut on the bottom. The custom mirrors I ordered (Ness/Drag Specialties) the actual mirror had a threaded part that held it to the stem, but that was just so you can set it to right or left mirror, otherwise they just slide in to place.. same thing with the Joker mirrors that my dad put on his 2000 Train, the mirrors a buddy put on his 01 Electra Glide, and the mirrors I put on my 92 Sportster when I had it. The easiest thing you could do right now is to just take them apart as is and check it out..worse comes to worse, you put it back together. The biggest thing to worry about is the angle you want to mount the stem, and if that angle will clear the master cylinder.. mine run parallel to the MC so I had no problems, but probably 85%+ of mirrors are universal (depending on how far you want the stem to stick out and such, etc)

A lot of mirrors will come with 2 different styles of mounting bolts. The first will be for most metric bikes where there's a bolt that goes from underneath the lever and up into the mirror stem and tightens that way. Or they come with a threaded insert that you put into the stem of the mirror, feed through the levers, and put a nut (or the on threaded turn signal) and tighten it all up that way.

Or you could do what STLFLSTF_Mike said; buy the mirrors, buy a bolt that threads into the mirror, cut the head off.

Or you could relocate your mirrors to the forks or anywhere else.
