I tried this post in the exhaust/motor - technical section and did not get a single response, so I thought I'd post it here, again, I know there are better options out there, I just want to know if I am in the ballpark for what I wanted to accomplish. I am fully aware of my ignorance and limitations (don't know anything, can't/won't do anything about/to motors); but I thought I'd share what the dealer is doing on my bike with the smart people.
- 103 BB stage I - 204 cam kit - Pro Super Tuner K (all the above is SE) - V&H Big Shot Staggereds
Trusted them to steer me correctly. Wanted some additional punch over stock, for comming out of turns, strong acceleration - not pulling-up or racing, just quick if I want it (been having fun with my VTX 1300 Honda and don't want to lose anything); wanted to hopefully only come in for regular service intervals (i.e. no super performance stuff that would be extra hard on the rest of the motor, I know, no guarantees, but possibly help); want to cruise at higher than posted HWY limits comfortably (again not hauling ***, just sometimes want to cruise a little faster than normal, if I wanted fast I would have gotten something else); wanted to maintain warranty and purchased extended warranty.
I am to poor to be a RUB, and couldn't pull-off posing as anything, just want to have the HD experience and hopefully love/enjoy it like I have my past riding experiences. Do you think this will get the job done? Should I see fair difference in HP, TRQ and TRQ cuve (I know, when I grow-up, I can get better parts/cams, but this is what I am going with for now). Also, thank all of you I have read and learned a lot.
I'm hoping for the same. Well, I know I'll have alot more just from the research. Bought the 103 stage II big bore kit with cams. I passed on the one made specifically for the Fat Bob as opposed to all the other Dyna models. It was $300 less and the only difference was a new header pipe that now has a cat in it for emission control.......pass. Should be here in about 5 days and then I'll start tearing into it. They also credited me the stage I air cleaner since I already have that so basically $750. I'll have about 20 gremlin bells around the bike so that nothing goes wrong.
Numbers are good, I am over the 100ft/lbs of torque and the horsepower is up high 80's. I have installed a bagger highflow kit(hdcover would not fit stock dyna highflow filter ) and I can feel the engine has a bit more ponies. I am not going near a dyno as mine is tuned properly.
You will love it now go get that tuned after break-in.
uh in a nut shell yep your gonna have some fun . not slamming the vtx1300 but it isnt even close. I have no regrets going with the 103 kit and I didnt go for the cheezy cat mufflers either , as a matter of fact the stock mufflers seem to do pretty well and certainly have a lot deeper rumble to them . not overly loud cruising out of the neighbor hood in the morning but sound pretty good when you lay down on it. I was going to go with screaming eagle pipes ,2 stealers I talked to said they really wouldnt be much better than what I already have . so Im thinking this winter more than likely I will go with a 2-1 performance exhaust but right now Im having way to much fun just riding to worry about that. the bikes running good ,not getting hot and has plenty of acceleration to do what I need. yesterday coming home from the hospital I run a flat out 80 mph for 50 miles and then got caught in bridge construction and had to set for 15 minutes in 88 degree temps , no over heating at all. good luck and enjoy , you also owe us a picture.
