Put on Thunder Headers or you will anger the Harley Gods!!!!!
seriuously though, you will have a hard time finding some one who has them on their bike and doesn't absolutely love them. I wouldn't even consider another pipe, especially the V+H . I raced motorcycles (road course) for many years and love performance over all else. ......They perform.....period.
Oh, P.S. save your money on the ceramic black ones and just get the flat black, you'reprobably gonna wrap them anyway (they are ..ummmm......WARM.)
Why did you take off the TH? What was the problem on long trips?
I've had loud pipes on my bikes for years and years. I put a lot of miles on my bagger, 173,000 miles to be exact. I'm getting older, and the thunder just got hard to take on my long trips. The noise was just something I didn't want to listen to anymore for hours on end.
Don't get me wrong, the Thunderheader sounds GREAT. But after all these years on long trips the noise is something I can't handle anymore. If you're young, you'll love it. If you do short trips you'll love it. If you like loud pipes you'll love it. But if you're getting older and do a LOT of miles, it may not be the pipe for you.
Blue, thanks for the explanation. I'm in my mid 50's and not really all that crazy about loud pipes. Wrenched on jets for 4 years and was in aviation for another 7. Although loud doesn't float my boat, performance does. I don't really do alot of miles at a time, my saddle can't take it, but I always thought the loud pipe will drive the guy behind you nuts, but not really the driver.
I am leaning towards the TH, just for the performance.
+1 thunderheader. mine is amazing...well...was. trying to find another to replace the one i crunched in a recent wreck. there is nothing better. rumble, tons of torque, and enough sound to wake the neighbors if you get on it, but quiet enough to let them sleep if you dont get on it. its the perfect combination!
the cornering clearance is actually worse than stock.
Now, ya know, I didn't look at that. The pipes do hang lower than stock pipes. That is a problem because I have scraped the **** out of the stock pipes. That's why you are Special Ed; ya got special insight, eh.
Have you had any problems with right turns with the TH? I always bottom out on right turn on and off ramps with the stock vacum mufflers.

This is true. I did scrape it quite a bit and I didnt like the look at all. I **** canned the thing. Now I have a set of Vance & Hines that's loud enough to wake the neighbors or let them sleep - depending how my right hand is feeling... And I didn't notice a performance difference between the TH and the V&H
I am leaning about 90% towards the TH, but have new concerns; lean angle on the right and HEAT.
Any thoughts out there????
Get a shock wrench (<$10US) and tighten the shocks up. The stock setup is absurdly soft unless you're spending all your time on interstate. It might help with the THs, too. Special Ed's been on a lowered suspension, so that might not be giving a clear reading. Special Ed, I read you've put some air shocks on there...has that made some difference in the clearance?

Baesman:
The V&H pipes you refer to the long shot in you pic or are they the pro pipe. If you talking about the pro pipe, how is the lean clearance? Do they hit pavement in a good lean????

Wouldn't tighening the shock only make the ride stiffer, but the amount of travel would stay the same. I'll have to take a tape measure with me on my next ride...
