Last night my 3 year old was playing in the garage while I giving my 2007 SG a little "sprucing up". I turned away for a minute and I heard a crash. My son had run into the primary cover with a metal toy dump truck.Does anybodyknow what can be done to "touch it up" (until I get around to replacing the powder coated primary cover with a chrome one)? Will something like Rust-Oleum work? Any other suggestions?
This may sound back woods, but I had issue with a leaky S&S E carb that left my silver powder coat (PC) stained severely. I used a similar silver paint, sprayed on a paper towel and wiped on. It hides the stain and blends at the same time.
Your problem is that the PC has a depth that will show if you were to just spray something over it. Try taking some mid grit sand paper and feather the edge of the chipped powder coat. That will make the edge blend back into the original PC. Now try and find a silver spray bomb paint and spray a paper towel (not the cover) and wipe it on. You really have nothing to lose at this point, since the deed is already done, anything you do now will just tone the chip down a little!

RE: Silver Powder Coat
Don't they have model paint in those little bottles anymore? Get a little brush and carefully fill the scratch, with many coats until it looks ok. You can do a little (very fine) wet sanding to smooth out the blob after its cured good.
