I would like to install some custom ape hangers on my bike anywhere from 12"\\;-16"\\;. I want to do it myself to save money and to learn some things. I have been told that I am lookin at somethin way over my head as i am new to bikes. <\\;br>\\;I am mechanically inclined by nature...I have built some small block chevy&\\;amp\\;rsquo\\;s and a couple chevy automatic transmissions.<\\;br>\\;What do you guys think? Extremely difficult? Whats the hardest thing that needs to be done? The clutch cable?<\\;br>\\;The bike that I own is a 06 Street Bob.<\\;br>\\;Thanks for your time!
Not too hard at all. I thought the hardest part was bleeding the front brake (not even hard just a PITA) BUY A MANUAL....buy quality stuff and take your time. If your building small blocks you can change the bars. Ive done it twice already and the benefits to doing it yourself are awesome. Good luck.
internal wires are a bitch!!!...find someone who can do it...my indy uses old speedo cable to run them...1/2 hr, $30 later done!!...the apes are the easy part...you may have to loosen/take off exhaust to get to clutch cover, same with tank to run throttle cables, and then bleeding brakes
You can do it, What is the worst that can happen? You have to get someone to help or finish it for you. I doubt myself sometimes but find if I just jump in and try most things are not that hard. You also have a lot of good help right here. By the way you should get a service manual if you don't have one. Good luck with the project.
Its not that hard even with internal wiring, \\;(12's would be easiest)
 \\;
I rate it,  \\;2 outta 5 Wrenches. \\;
 \\;
Just \\;buy a manual and go for it. \\; I'll be in your corner if you need help
 \\;
 \\;
Just out of curiosity, why are the 12" easiest? I'm considering these for my Street Bob as a 2" increase over stock (10" mini apes).

I've also used the internal cable part of a throttle cable. \\; You snake the end through the bars and fasten the wires to the fitting on the end of the throttle cable and pull them back through.
