Default 5000 mile service

Do I need to have the 5000 mils service done by the dealer? I have changed the fluids and done all the regular maintence. Do they do something more? Thanks

I don't think so. I just did mine and if I were were you, I would get the manual and do your own service. The dealer pricing on service is just not worth it. You can learn a lot about what you are riding and thats a good thing.

That is what I figured, I didn't realize it was in the service manual. I guess I need to look at mine. Thanks

&nbsp\\;
that list comes from the harley website click above enter your vin and mileage and you get a list.
&nbsp\\;
the list is also in your owners manual and if you go and buy a service manual it will show you how to do it all.

its difficult to see the need for ever getting the bike serviced at a dealer&nbsp\\;&nbsp\\; thing is , as i never intend to sell my scoot, then i dont need to worry about the dealer stamp on the book affecting price and i prefer to work on my own machine, you know its done right then...

OK - you have a list - and it's not difficult.
Maybe I'm a bit **** - but when I do mine - I take pictures along the way.

Take a pic of the speedo - with mileage ... if something needs "inspecting" - brakes, tires, etc - take pics of each.
Older models need the primary chain adjusted - take a pic of how you did it.&nbsp\\; Same goes for the drive belt.
Take a pic of all raw materials (filter, oil, etc).

This adds minimal time to the task - and in the end you crack a beer - dump the pics to your computer - put them in a document - with a few notes - then print it out.
It's a great reference for yourself - and if anyone ever questions it - well - you have a much better document than the dealer gives you!&nbsp\\; If you have to resell - anyone would be impressed that you took care of the bike and paid great attention to detail.
