RE: Vibration free. Front isolator problem fixed.Pics
Hey,Guys.After reading SeeNoSun's post(Exhaust Alignment) I started thinking(very dangerous at my age).I don't have my manual with me(in the UK)but does it say anything about loosening the exhaust system to do Engine alignment?.I know it's bolted to the engine/gearbox not the frame,but could the alignment of the exhaust system from the factory be putting strain on the mounts \\;or restricting engine movement,if not done correctly. \\;I'm not a mechanic just an idea.
Brit.

expy how much do your mirrors vibrate now with the fix? I have trouble starting at 55MPH . Gets worst faster I go.Also at lower speeds depending on gear/RPMs.

TnBrit I havent seen anything in the manual about doing an exhaust alignment with the engine but I have found some exhaust clamp bolts rubbing that I had to rotate because of contact.

puddle jumper I still have vibes in the mirrors at highway speeds but I think that has to do mostly with wind buffeting. My bike still has vibes just not the irritating high feq. buzzing in the pegs.

Hi,Jamman.Of course you're right,Harleys Vibrate.What this \\;thread is about is an additional vibration,possibly caused by an out of tolerance or knackered front motor mount.If your Dyna dosen't have this ADDED vibration that's great,but it is a machine,&\\; any machine from any manufacturer,can have a defective part or parts.So why tell Harley riders to buy Japanese bikes just because we are discussing a POSSIBLE fault.Or don't you love us.

Well,
 \\;
I have an '06 Wide Glide that I took in awhile back and had the front isolator replaced under warranty....the bike was one of the smoothest riding with no vibration I have ever had until the isolator degraded....I don't remember the mileage but it was within the first two years. \\;
 \\;
Until that time even the mirrors had little to no vibration at any speed.....it got rougher and rougher as time went on and one day I just rode up to the dealership and they looked at it on the bike and said no question, it was fried. \\; It looked semi-collapsed and irregular from the front, but I didn't look at the clearances.......
 \\;
They replace it and I had the bike back in no time....I actually waited on it, so I'm not so sure they did the whole alignment procedure after or not....I won't call 'em on it because I don't know for sure, but with the new isolator, it was smoother than before, but not as smooth as when new.....
 \\;
It's still rough now and probably need shimming but I haven't had time to pull it down and look at everything. \\; I wanted to shim it (the second one) before I got a bunch of miles on the new one but haven't gotten to it yet....I didn't look at the clearance before they took the old one off but I was aware of the need to shim some of them at the bolt holes.....right now it's rougher than it should be and the left mirror is worse than the right......I need to mount a new rear tire soon so when I do that, I will try to see what's going on with the new isolator and let you know.........
