..and am looking for advice. I'd probably get a basic Superglide or a Sport due to the supposed better handling.
So, here are my questions for you guyswhat should I know about Dynas prior to buying one?
Are they the best handling big twins?
What years are the best mechanically?
What issues are there with different years? Etc.
For example, I just missed a basic '04 Super Glide on craigslist for $8500, but found a lower mileage '97 Super Glide for $8k. I'd guess the newer one is better because of the fuel injection, and the bigger newer engine, but am not sure. I think I read the frame changed at some point this decade, but am not sure when. Help!
New frame in 06. My fuel-injected 08 Super Glide is everything I want a bike to be. The twin-cam 96 showed up in 07 [I think] along with the six-speed, and \\; 49mm front forks. The newer ones [06-up] were the only choice for me.
I would, but that would be a haul! \\; My parents live in Bowling Green, and I've done the trip between Denver and there in a cage a few times. \\; It's long....
Bought my 08'FXDC after owning a 2005 sportster for about a month and I could not be happier. . hate the dash on the basic model though so i would cough up the 2k and go with the custom. . just a better look in my opinion.
I'm biased, but I think the Dyna line is the most versatile, big twin motor, better handling than the heavier bikes(in certain respects), can go long distance in a pinch and great around town, if you want to gobble up miles probably a bagger, if I had the money I'd have both, just my 2 cents.
Conmann is correct.
I have an 06 TC 88" with EFI Six Speed and 180 rear tire. The 05 had a 150 tire and 5 speed and carb. Fuel injection is nice because it starts right up and never misses a beat. The throttle response is great.
In addition to the more rigid frame, the '06 introduced the 6 speed. The '07 has the slightly larger engine and transmission gear changes to accommodate the different torque curve.
 \\;
I heard the '06 runs less hot than the '07 or '08, but i don't know from personal experience.

The dynas are NIMBLE and the Harley touring bikes are more roadworthy. The Softails are not really Harleys.
