I have a 2003 Super Glide w/ forward controls. The local HD dealer told me that the engine guard for the Wide Glide should fit on my ride because of the FWC. I am concerned about clearance since the WG has a longer rake (more clearance between the front fender and the frame). Has anyone tried this? What are the alternatives to Harley engine guards for my bike?

Thanks!
Truth is I am pretty new at riding (just over a year) and I just got the Dyna (about a month ago). I haven't dropped it - and I don't plan to. But last night some young girl pulled out right in front of me... and stopped in the middle of the road for no reason! I stopped in plenty of time, but another second or two...

Just thought that replacing a $200 engine guard was better than replacing a tank or worse. I really haven't made up my mind though.
Thanks. Looks like you made them work. Would a moustache bar and highway pegs be a better solution?

BTW - great \\;Rush reference in your signature line. The other great line from that tune is "if you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice".
The use of engine guards will save you some bucks if you drop the bike or go down on the street. They might even keep you from being pinned under the bike. If you want them then go for it, do not let some one else tell you how your bike should look. Itâs your ride, accessorize and customize it to your own preference. Ask the dealer to see if the engine guard that he mentioned will fit correctly, with the understanding that if it doesnât then you are not obligated to purchase it. A mustache bar will offer a different place to rest your feet but it may not as effective as the engine guard if you lay the bike down.  \\; Arcane
I keep my engine guard because of the highway peg position. The drop protection is a nice fringe benefit. BTW, the catalogue \\;\\\\\\;lists one for Dynas with forward controls...doesn't specify WG either way. Pt. #49010-06- $199.95

As for the looks, you have to decide for yourself what your priorities are: appearance, function, comfort, performance, safety, or whatever... There are pros and cons \\;any way you go.
I have the Lindby multibar on my bike. \\; There are no issues with front fender / tire clearance. \\; However, I had a clearance problem on the brake side when I had forward controls. \\; Solved it by straightenning the pedal lever.
