PULLED BY COPS
As well they should. \\;\\\\\\; I was on \\;\\\\\\;a 4 \\;\\\\\\;freeway going 70 ( \\;\\\\\\;the posted limit) when 4 of these rice burners came roaring up, zig zagging in-between cars and trucks. \\;\\\\\\; They had to be going 90 easily. \\;\\\\\\; If one car would have had to brake, or these jokers swerved at the last minute..... \\;\\\\\\;they would have been splats on the road or I would have run over one of them. They dont even LOOK before they weave and dodge. \\;\\\\\\; I \\;\\\\\\;was coming \\;\\\\\\; back from my first day of Riders Edge Class...where we rode the bikes for the first time. \\;\\\\\\; I just shook my head and wondered where's a cop when you need one. \\;\\\\\\; The jokers were teenagers and clueless.......putting us all in danger.
If it was California, the cops wouldn't have cared anyway. I moved here to Southern Cal three years ago from Texas and was amazed the first time I saw motorcycles going down the centerlines at highway speed, inches from the cars. I wondered where the hell the cops were until I saw the CA Highway patrol motorcycle cops doing the same damned thing! It turns out that this is called lane-splitting and it's perfectly legal in California. But its about the dumbest thing I have ever seen. And the "born and raised" bikers here seem to think that its legal everywhere in the US, until I explain that it's not legal anywhere else except in Kalifornia...
I refuse to do it, no matter how much the locals think that I'm the "odd" one.And what's really asinine is that the state of Kalifornia requires you to wear a helmet "for your safety", but doesnt give a crap about you going down the centerline on the highway.
Odd, just odd

We had a local CHP motor officer come speak at our last HOG chapter meeting. He said in our neck of the woods (northern Ca, Sonoma County) motorcycle deaths are up 5x's that of 2 years ago. The stats showed Harley riders 35-50 years old were the majority of the fatalities. \\;He attributed this to alcohol consumption and poor safety gear. \\;When challenged, he said the younger sport bike riders seem to have a higher riding skill level and usually dress for the race/ride. \\;For me personally, I worked 20 years as a LEO and the only motorcycle crash reports I've taken involved drunk Harley riders. I've seen many many sport bike crashes in the canyons while riding off duty, though. Sorry for the ramble. I just wanted to put a twist on perspective. \\;

 \\;Not entirley true. Yes it is legal to lane split in CA, while there no are specific guidlines as to the speed you can split, but it's "supposed" to be done safely. I.E. Not in a reckless manner. So the riders splitting the lanes at 80mph would techinically not be legal, but try enforcing something that has no specifics. Kind of a dumb law regardless of which side your on. Personally I don't split lanes unless it's a parking lot and my a$$ is about to catch fire from the heat.
