A friend who rides a Gold Wing \\;\\\\\\;was splitting lanes in the car pool lane and got a ticket here in  \\;\\\\\\;Cali. They were also pulling bikes over for speeding. I drove down the same highway and the CHP's were giving me the wave as they passed me. Just drive safely and cops will leave you alone.[/align]
Most cops get into the line of work because they don't like to see people being victimized. I never did like a bully. That being said, I believe most cops appreciate how vulnerable a guy is when he is riding his motorcycle on a roadway populated primarily by cages. As long as your are not riding in a manner that you are your own worst enemy, you should always be fine.
I have never been pulled over and I have even been waved through sobriety check points. I also have only stopped one motorcycle\\; a nice looking Big Dog Chopper (109 in a 40). I gave him a minor butt chew'n and let him go.
Ride safe guys and remember, we are no different than you!
The unwritten rule for lane splitting in California as it was explained to me is
No more than 20mph over the flow of traffic without exceeding the speed limit,
and without excessive swerving between the cars.
Otherwise, if you have the room, you can split. If its so tight your dodging to miss mirrors or almost bumping pegs, you're gonna get pulled over.
If traffic is moving at 40 or above, you're gonna get in trouble.
If the LEO didnt get laid the night before, you're gonna get a ticket.
They're often OK as long as they've met their arrest quota and you don't take the ****. I got a tug last year for having a black visor. I was on my XJR1300 riding up through Salisbury afer Poole bike night. It was getting dark and I had a clear one in a belt so I changed it and I got let off. A bloke I work with got bollocked last week for having a small plate and a loud pipe on his Hornet.
I got done by a greed camera last year. I was only doing 35 in a 30 limit which pissed me off. I got away with doing a 'speed awareness' course. It cost me 75 quid but I didn't get any points on my licence.
I've got some news for everyone. \\; Local Law Enforcement is starting to crack down BIG TIME, ESPECIALLY in small towns/ rural communities, here in the USA. \\; \\;With \\;small communities getting straped for cash, housing values lowering \\; and forclosures coupled with a decrease in property taxes being collected more and more are \\;NOT ONLY GIVING OUT MORE TICKETS, BUT ARE RAISING THE FEES FOR THOSE TICKETS to offset the rising fuel prices the cops are paying for their fuel. \\; That comes right out of the township budgets. \\; What better "REVENUE \\;ENHANCEMENT" than to start handing out more tickets......not only to bikers but to everyone. \\; Got a trailer light or headlamp out......TICKET TIME. \\;Cracked windshield?? TICKET TIME, Loud Pipes or no muffler......TICKET TIME, and \\;going 45 in a 35 mph zone will get ya every time. \\; I got hammered for going 55mph in a 50mph zone, and the speed sign saying 55 mph was less than 50 feet away \\;from me. \\; When I pointed out the sign the officer said I accellerated too soon, and that 50mph means 50.......and \\; he gave me the $125.00 ticket plus I got 2 points. \\; It was the second to the last day of the month, and I was just \\; inside city limits. \\;
So take heed....... they're going to be watching you when you go through their sleepy little towns.......and yes, they \\; still hide \\; off the road in the woods and "shoot ya" as you go \\;zooming by on that long, straight road. \\;
Anything more that a 50% tint is illegal here in the day time, and you have to use a clear visor at night. \\\\\\; The daft thing is you can wear any type of shades you want up to an 80% tint. \\\\\\; I wear a 90% tint visor during the day and carry a clear one.
You mean I can't wear a Burka? That's just discrimination or profiling or something.
