Just got the Hi-FLow SE SP Slip-ons put on my 07 FXDL-not loud..but much deeper sound than stock..and much louder than stock when light up the throttle...but if LOUD is your goal...they are not for you...just my .02's...
I got rid of the honda davidson sound (stock pipes)and went with RUSH 2.0 and let me tell you what a difference. \\; great sound \\; go with slip on's you can't go wrong....
I too was in the boat of not wanting to spend any money on a new exhaust system. What worked best for me on my 09 Fat Bob was removing just 1 baffle and keeping the other one in. Because the stock system has a 2 into 1 into 2 exhaust, it wont under pressurize one cylinder and the back pressure is equalized when it is branched down into 1 pipe again. It gives off just the right tone (not distorted or too loud) yet still gives it that harley crack when you jump on the throttle. I didnt see any power loss or gain in low end torque, like some have experienced so i was happy just getting the right sound. Leaving the other baffle in will still give it the engine some back pressure needed and prevent backfiring when high idling on downshifting. Fairly simple procedure also (removed can, rivits, took a broom stick to push out baffle and put the empty can back on.
Got a pair of rush Slipons up for sale with 2.0 baffles, they have 3,000 miles on them. Not sure of pricing used. They sale from around 250 to 315 new. any interest pm me.
A week after getting my FB I was on the way to meet some buddies for a ride to Luckenbach, TX and was almost run off the road by an old man. Now I wasn't in his blind spot so he should have seen me (if he was paying any attention at all), but I'm sure he didn't HEAR me either. Now I'm saving for a set of V&H Big Radius 2 into 2 so I will at least be HEARD in the future.
i had the se exhaust on my fatbob for almost a year, they don't sound much better than stock,i'm having vh shortshots installed, sound much better. also on my streetglide i had rush slip-ons installed, they sounded much better than stock and se exhaust, but still a little to tame for me.
I too did not like the lack of sound on my 09 Chubby Robert.
I installed a set of Rush 1.75's slip on's and am very pleased. If you do it yourself, remember to use new muffler clamps and tighten to at least 65 ft/lbs. I had decel popping and called Rush tech. They advised the above spec's. Bought a torque wrench, followed their advise and decel popping gone. I thought it was tight enough the first time but was wrong. It sucked air in at that joint and caused the popping.
I put screamin eagle slip ons ,then fitted v&h short shots, sounds great but very loud.a cheaper option is remove stock baffle, easy drill out rivets, pulls straight out,and rinehart do a baffle that slides stright in
