Default 07 Dyna problems

Hi everyone
I hate to go over this again, but I have an 07 Dyna Low (96 motor) I have tried different oils,"20/50 , straight 50, harley stuff and others. The valve train makes outragious noise especially when hot. Also hard to start when hot. The foolish clutch in the starter drive is
screaming. The dealer says its normal, "they all do this" Also the heat this thing throws off is rediculous.&nbsp\\;Also have to keep the rpms at 2000 or more or the trans lugs, am constantly down shifting even at 35-40 mph.&nbsp\\;Getting pretty disgusted,&nbsp\\;I had an 1100 /1986 sporty that was great except for the 4 speed. Should have kept it.
&nbsp\\;
Anyone else with this model and year have the same problems or fixes?
Thanks Steve

No problems here. Could be the nut behind the handlebars.

I am constantly moving my legs because of the heat.&nbsp\\; And chrome makes it worse...............And anything under 2000 RPM is reason to lug....shift dummy...... I have a tach on mine and no matter what gear you are in anything below 2000 RPM is going to lug.
Buy a Honda

Sounds like you are using cheap gas. Big Twins run best on 93 octane and up. Get and oil cooler, that might drop your misery by 20+ degrees.

Trick question, right? I have the same model year. It does the same stuff. They're not problems. The valves sound like pushrod-actuated, non-hydraulic lifter&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;valves. Getting hot thins the oil, so the noise gets louder. Synthetic oils are thinner than dino oils regardless of the viscosity numbers. A switch to dino&nbsp\\;will make your bike as quiet as it's going to get. If you want it to sound like a sewing machine, get a BMW.
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;
Yes, it's hard(er) to start when it's hot.
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;
Yes, it gets hot. It's air cooled, you see. It's supposed to be hot. It's hotter than earlier bikes because it has a larger displacement. (Don't start about lean mixture.)
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;
Lugging is a function of load and mechanical advantage, not RPM. Clearly the engine doesn't lug in first gear when you're under 2000. If you have any kind of clutch hand you can keep it from lugging under 2000 in second gear. After that, yes, you need to keep your revs up downshift. My bike is happy as clams are reputed to be at 40 in third. That's about 2500 RPM. Getting down to 35 in third is not a problem. Getting down to 30 is. I downshift.
&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;
If you had a bike you loved, no bike is ever going to compare well against it. You loved it\\\\\\; you knew its secrets. The Dyna is a good bike. But if you'd rather have a Sportster or a Honda or a BMW, get what you like.

I have a 2007 Low Rider.&nbsp\\; Yes, it runs very hot.&nbsp\\; About burns my leg off every time I ride it, especially since I&nbsp\\;use MID CONTROLS.
I dont know about lagging, RPM's and all the technical terms you're talking about. Girls arent suppose to know about things like that.......but other than the massive amount of heat hitting my right leg ( similar to standing next to an oven coil set on "broil") my bike runs fine.&nbsp\\; I dont seem to have an issue of hard starting after running hot.&nbsp\\; I do know you really cant compare a Sportster to a Dyna any more than you can compare a Dyna to an Ultra.&nbsp\\;
Anything new is bound to give you pause.&nbsp\\; Different sounds, friction points, handling, weight...... It just takes getting use to....like going from Windows 98 to XP to Vista.&nbsp\\;All have some good points and some bad.&nbsp\\; Just go with the flow and enjoy your bike.
BTW......&nbsp\\; we changed over to Amsoil synthethc at our 1000K inspection/service

I had been riding my 08 Street Bob around in the LA area the past week, while the temparature was been hovering above 100. Yes, it gets hot, but so far I haven't experienced any performance issues. But what amazes me is how hot the engine stays while parked in my garage after a long hot ride. Even 4 or 5 hours later, the engine is still too hot to touch. There's a lot of&nbsp\\;steel in there! I suggested to my wife that she prepare some stew that I can sit on the exhaust after I park.
