Hi,i \\;owned a -02 Heritage (5-speed) for a while before I got my Fat Bob and I was also borrowing an -08 Heritage with 6-speed when
I waited for the FB to arrive.I think it is a big difference in gear ratios between the Dyna and Softail. I wonder if i am coming to use
the 6 gear on my FB because the roads is not always so good here.I really like the gear ratio on the 6-speed Softail so thats the question : Is both \\;\\\\\\;the transission gears or/and belt sprockets different between the models ??
Hmm,it was a big difference between Heritage -08 and Fat Bob -08,the FB have a higher gear ratio than the Heritage. Here in Sweden
the six gear on a FB/Dyna is called "arizona gear" to drive fast on straight roads. If the transmissions on both bikes were equal something else must be difference, maybe the belt sprockets or primary drive. This issue maybe not so important but if it only was size of belt sprockets i would consider a change to get same gear ratio as the Heritage.
Even if the ratios are the same the wheel size and outside diameter of the tyre will make a big difference.
For instance, a 16 inch wheel with a 4 inch tyre has a circumference of 75.5 inches. A 20 inch wheel with the same size tyre has a circumference of 88 inches.
Yes,maybe the FB tire has a larger outside diameter than the softail tire.I was thinking it was possible to change to a little
larger belt sprocket on the wheel. But don,t know if it,s possible to buy such sprockets from HD. \\;The stock sprocket have 66 tooth on the FB/Touring.
