yep me and a friend are going fromPhoenix, AZ. \\\\\\; All I need for luggage is a bag on the fender and I have another bag I put on the backseat and use it for a backrest. \\\\\\; I don't use a "bikers friend" bag though. \\\\\\; For me it is to dang pricey. \\\\\\; I use a \\\\\\;saddlemen 3200 instead for $89, still to expensive but if it goes on a Harley it'll be near $100.....
I just threw out the Biker's Friend thing because I hear about it all the time. Yes, it's pricey - will definitely check out others first, I have saddlebags too so have plenty of room. Was mainly looking for a back rest that holds luggage. Thanks for the tip about the saddlemen.
My brother-in-law and I are going. \\; Leaving from Ft. Smith, AR and going to catch a Cardinal game in St. Louis on the way up (they are playing the Brewers that week). \\; We are leaving that Thursday so we can ding-dong around getting there. \\; I have a Nelson Rigg pack (the one that is 100% waterproof) that will strap to the back of my \\;detachable tall sissy bar.  \\;My essentials: \\; raingear, sunblock and \\;helmet (for Missouri). \\;We have the reservations already made...now trying to earn enough money to pay for them when we get there!!!!!
Maybe I'm stating the obvious, but I would pack rain gear. \\;\\\\\\; I got rained on last year to and from Milwaukee from Dallas. \\;\\\\\\;
 \\;\\\\\\;
[ul][*]I would also suggest a tire plug kit - you can buy at Autozone. \\;\\\\\\;[*]Since you're down in San Antone...I would also bring your cold weather riding gloves. \\;\\\\\\; My hands got cold at night when I rode up, granted it was 1am and going through the farm fields of IL, but it felt cold. \\;\\\\\\;[*]Socks - for foot warmth when it rains and/or cold.[*]A hydration pack is good to have - used mine last year when riding in the sun. \\;\\\\\\; Made the trip easier. \\;\\\\\\; I would also suggest the 100 oz. hydration pack vs. the 70 oz. I bought. \\;\\\\\\; Went through the water pretty quick. \\;\\\\\\;[*]I also packed some of the gel packs that runners and bikers used when I stopped for gas and didn't want to stop to eat. \\;\\\\\\;[*]Quart of motor oil.[/ul]
I going with a group of 10-15 HOG Chapter members, \\;I may never ride to Sturgis so I didn't want to miss this ride. I'm on a 07' WG, Bikers Friend for back support also just added 12.5in Wild Chubbys for comfort and the QD HD windshield. I'm also adding the Saddleman Santa Fe on the fender rack for carrying more crap.
Good suggestions all, thanks. I need to get a taller sissybar - I only have the little shortie that comes on the stock WG. As for the tire plug kit, I have spoked wheels so I was hoping a can of fix-a-flat would work to temporarily plug a flat tube. Would probably **** off whoever would have to change the tire though...
Wide96_6 - that's a nice looking WG and has exactly the same kind of sissybar I was looking for. How much/where did you get it?
I got mine off Ebay for $35 a while back but here is a link to get them at cost.

I had to re-tap the bolt holes from the other side to make it fit.
