Anyone going to the 105th anniversary? My brother-in-law is riding his new '08 Ultra Classic from North Carolina and he wants me to go, plus the old lady said "go" because her back can't take the trip on my WG, and I ain't trailoring. Aside from luggage, anyone have any advise for a trip this long? I was thinking: biker's friend for a backrest, tools, one of those "emergency drive belts" and a can of fix-a-flat. Oh yeah, plastic too...should about cover it. I can think of a few other things to do to the bike, but not sure I can afford them, like 3" fwd control extensions so my knees don't die and maybe a luggage rack on my rear fender.
I'm sure many of you have done a 1500 mile trip. Lessons learned would be appreciated, thanks!
Just peeked at the MoCo's site and they have some sort of "trip planner" thing which I'm sure is a dealer-hop. Wonder if they have groups going from different destinations. Might be good in case you break down - someone has your back and you can help each other if something happens.
Now THAT brings back memories, Bad Company! My brother-in-law reserved a hotel room about 2 months ago and I wasn't going to go, but the wife just mentioned today "why don't you go?". So, WTF, why not? I figured I'd go. Never been to Sturgis - we were supposed to go last year, but it didn't work out. I've got a zillion hours of vacation saved up and it would be great to get out on the open road. Wife thinks I'm nuts and wants me to trailer, but hell no. 1500 miles one way from South Texas, but it'll be OK...
yep me and a friend are going fromPhoenix, AZ. \\; All I need for luggage is a bag on the fender and I have another bag I put on the backseat and use it for a backrest. \\; I don't use a "bikers friend" bag though. \\; For me it is to dang pricey. \\; I use a \\;saddlemen 3200 instead for $89, still to expensive but if it goes on a Harley it'll be near $100.....
