Ya know how as you get close to a buzzard having lunch in the middle of the road, they usually fly up and away well before you get close to 'em? Well, today one didn't. Went out for a ride on my lunch break and had a huge buzzard decided he didn't want to leave his meal of dead groundhog and flew up and at me at the very last minute...i was going about 50 and he hit my knuckles on my left hand...i had an immediate mental flash to "Wild Hogs" and the bird in the face scene. Luckily,he flipped off to the left of the bike and not into my face. I honestly thought i'd broke a few knuckles...BIG bird!! Coulda been worse i guess..there's a post here somewhere about a buzzard puking on some poor guy....bikes ok...just watch these guys and don't expect that they will always move.....
I ALMOST hit one sunday evening. \\; It was so close, I flinched and waited for the the hit... \\; It still had 'dinner' hanging out of it's beak. \\; I damn near **** myself...
Thats funny, I came inches from hitting a buzzard today. I definately braced for impact and swerved a bit but he missed me.
Scared the crap outta me.
My buddy took a seagull in the chest at full speed the other day, freaking feathers everywhere.
Not nearly as exciting as hitting a buzzard, but the other day I was out for a nice ride and a small bird (maybe a robin or a blue jay) smacked into my shoulder. I looked down into my lap and to my horror it was flapping its wings and fluttering in my lap. I made kind of a moan/scream (think scared 12 year old girl) and I tried to swat it out of my lap, my hand completely missing the bird on two successive swipes then it just flew away. My girlfriend who was riding on the back had no clue as to what kind of drama was happening just inches in front of her. She assumed I was being stung by a bee. The bird was fine, I was fine (other than feeling like somebody had given me a light punch to upper arm), but man what a freaky feeling.
Maybe the buzzard knew what he was doing... Wipe you out - and invite the family over for lunch! Fresh hog meat is better than \\; flattened groundhog. Seriously though, it could have been worse.
You're lucky all went well. \\; I came around a corner last weekend to be greeted by 10-12 wild turkeys just lounging in the middle of the freakin' road. \\; I don't know who was more scared, me or them!
I hit one solid last summer and ended up taking a ride down the grass for a stretch at 60 or so.....I kept it straight and eased back on the highway, \\;but it was not fun. There were several well off the road that decided (to my surprise) to fly across the road rather than away \\;from it leaving me nowhere to swerve. I \\;no longer \\;trust them (or any critter) \\;to do what I expect- I slow down and make sure.
Thats crazy! \\; The other day I was riding and saw a bunch of buzzards jumping around on the shoulder. \\; When i got closer I noticed there was another large bird in the middle. \\; When i got up on them i realized the other bird was an osprey and it had a bass about 16" long in its talons. \\; I didnt stick around to see the outcome but it was pretty cool and i wish i had my camera.
