Default Oil Change Question

When changing the oil (and filter) on a 2005 Dyna Super Glide, what is the proper amount of oil to put in? I assume it's 2.5 from what I've read and that's what I put in. I checked it cold on the jiffy stand and it was just about up to the full hot mark. Then I went for a short ride to warm the engine up, pulled the dipstick and it was about half way up the full hot mark...this was also done resting on the stand. I thought it would have went the other way....reading higher when hot (or at least warm). Thanks,
&nbsp\\;
Mike

2.5 should be about right Mike.

The dipstick will tell the actual correct level.

Went down in this case,
cause the oil filter absorbed some after startup.
