Hey guys, Im wrapping my chrome thunderheaders tomorrow with black wrap, and I was wondering on whats the best method of getting this done. I will have another guy helping me out, so it will be nice and tight, but I just want to know what else needs to be done? Ive heard they need to be soaked before being wrapped? What about spraying them with high heat paint? I was thinking of wrapping them up to the bracket, then spraying the rest with high heat BBQ paint to finish the black look. Any suggestions/opinions? Thanks guys!
I started above the O2 sensors and concentrated most of the wrap at the hottest part of the header the rear head pipeTrying to keep my posts short so they go through.
The first time I did it I started below the O2 sensors and covered 1/2 of the tape each time around. This gave me plenty of tape to reach the muffler but didn't block much heat.
I actually wrapped mine with the pipe on the bike. It kind of helps a little rather than taking it off and trying to hold the pipe ANDheader wrap at the same time.
Remember, wrapping pipes will cause them to deteriorate faster.

Pipes are designed to last the life of the bike but as Bluesssman stated, wrapping will cause deterioration. You should research this before doing it, unless you don't care [8D]
with a thunder header you want to keep the heat to the motor, wrap the pipe! soak it and use 2 people..on to pull the wrap tight and hold it an one to hold the pipe, i even run the wrap around a pole to get more leverage to get it real tight
