two issues to think about here 66
 \\;
each of them belt guards serve a different purpose
 \\;
the upper one has two jobs â to protect the leg of your passenger (if you run 2-up) from damage, and to protect you from a whiplash in event the belt snaps.
 \\;
the lower one is there to stop little rocks and debris from getting caught between the belt and the sprocket.
the chance of that happening? I guess similar to the chances of a nail getting into your back tire. some might go years with no flat. some get 3 flats in one weekâŚ.
 \\;
a little rock that gets between the belt and the rear sprocket can scour the teeth, chip the belt or do nothing at allâŚ
 \\;
 \\;
I removed my lower, but I occasionally ride two up and was a little concerned the passenger shoe laces or pant leg may get sucked in. So the upper stays.
I doubt you would have a problem BUT a guy here in town did have a chain break and lost his leg because he had no belt guard. Think if it snaps at 80...just a thought.
picked my bijke up and went home and removed both belt gaurde. only problem i've had since is that the bike looks cleaner without them. same goes with the turn signals and mirrors. i've never had a belt break from a rock getting stuck in the belt. only from acting the fool doing burnouts and wheelies.
