Why PCIII opposed to SERT rde??
I spent a fair amount of time researching the race tuner and the PC III. Both are great products IMHO. I really didn't consider the DFO and others. I went to the two main HD shops in town. One is a HD dealership where I bought my bike and another is an independent garage which has certified HD mechanics. Both have dyno's and both are Dynojet certified. For what it's worth, both shop dyno techs recommended the PCIII for my needs. Both shops offer the race tuner and recommend it for more involved engine upgrades. Understand I am interested in only modifying my air cleaner and muffler as a Stage 1. I do not intend further modifications, ie big bore kits, etc.
Secondly, I spoke to people who have used the PCIII. For the most part they were satisfied. All have had their bikes custom mapped and I think that is critical whether you use the SERT or PC III. If you read the posts in this forum I think it is safe to say that the SERT is preferred. I will tell you that I read the users manual and I am not that technically savvy to mess around with all of the SERT capabilites. The SERT is a great product, but in the end I trusted the people who will dyno my bike. I simply don't know enough about EFI to do any ECM modifications on my own.
Much has been said in this forum about the closed loop O2 sensors on the 2006 Dynas. At the end of the day, it is about fuel. The SERT can play with the O2 sensors. The PC III cannot. Overall, my opinion is that if you get a custom map and your fuel:air mix is right on-the feedback to the ECM from the O2 sensors is negligible overall. Yes you can richen your mix with altering the O2 sensors but it can't do it all. Just my opinion. I know others feel differently-they feel eliminating the O2 sensors is a step backward. I really don't care as long as my bike runs good with or without O2 sensors.
My bike has a stock ECM with the PC III. I have a "safe map", because I have not dyno'd my bike for a custom map. I will tell you that it starts immediately. At most there is about a second or two from the time I hit the start switch to the engine running. I do not have to touch the throttle at all. I have not had the cold start problems addressed in the forum. I also had my dealership install the PC III-I didn't do it. My bike runs great. The roll on the throttle is quick and responsive. I don't have any popping on deceleration. If it is this good with a "safe" map I can't wait to get a custom map with the dyno tune!
Only time will tell if I made the right choice. In the end, you just have to trust the advice you get. You have to be sure the dyno techs are well qualified. If they tell you they prefer working with the SERT then go for it. If they like the PC III then take that option. What you want is a well tuned bike that has a good custom map from either source.
I am probably in the minority with this opinion. Sorry for the long answer.
