1 is the softest and 5 is the stiffest . you dont want it so soft it bottoms out . obviously if you weigh 220lbs you will need to stiffen it up more than a person who weighs 150. also a stiffer suspension whill help give you better traction when cornering Im 6 ft 1 inch tall and and weigh 240lbs \\; and have mine set on 3.
