my service manual for 2008 dyna bikes states, with motorcycle on jiffy stand without rider or luggage, 5/16 to 3/8 deflection [10lbs of force ]
or with vehicle upright with rear wheel in the air, 1/2 in to 9/16 deflection [10lbs force ]... i did mine with my bike up on my J&S jack and set it at between 1/2 and 9/16 and the bike runs and feels great. hope this helps bro.
every tech I talk to says run the belt a little looser than suggested. Strange that fror 08 the manual says no rider weight and same measurement? wonder if it is a mistake.
did a little tension experiment today... had the shocks off to install my strut covers. I lowered the bike down as if I was sitting on it. The tension appears to measure the same as if there was no weight on the bike. I tried a few locations and cannot figure out why one needs bodyweight on the bike to adjust the tension. The measurements all came out the same. Maybe its because I have 11" shocks and the swingarm is less than parallel to the ground. Perhaps once past parallel the axle does not get any further away from the pivot point causing the belt to tighten under load.
