I have an 06' FXDI that i bought a little over 2 weeks ago and it has about 350 miles on it so far. I was riding around on it and had actually been drving in some light around town traffic. It was about 55 degrees out and i never had to let it idle for more then 3 minutes. All the sudden my oil light starts flickering on and off rapidly at idle. If you barely crack the throttle a hair it's on solid, but if you give it a burst it turns off and also it's not on at all when i'm riding. The oil level is completely full just as it was when i bought it.
Has anyone else experianced this problem??? if so what was the cause???
I know the bike is under warranty but i just waxed it and polished everything on it and it's going to pour rain tommorow and i cant bring myself to put it in the back of my truck in the pouring rain. My bike hasn't been wet yet and i'd prefer to keep it that way. I'll probably have to make an appointment anyways. Any feedback is appreciated...
Did you check the connection on the oil sending switch itself? Could also be a bad sending unit. Does the oil have a strong gas smell? Could be fuel diluted causing it to thin out causing it even thou it is FI if you get a malfunctiong injector.
I checked the connection already and it's good, and there is no fuel oder from the oil. I think it is a bad sending unit, because it's a brand new bike and that seems to be the most likely part to fail.
Anybody else, have any ideas?
I moved the connector around a little last night to make sure it had a good connection and thats all i did. Today i rode the bike around town for about an hour, and the light didn't flicker once. My buddy down at the local performance bike shop said it's most likely a bad sending unit and i should take it down there and have them check it so theres documentation of a problem.
He also quoted me a price of $750 for: To buy the SERT and dyno the bike and tweek the map is needed. Is that a fair price???

Sert at Zanotti's is $377......Dyno time at my dealer is $300. $700 is probably fair.
I bought a Low Rider in Sept. If the oil light started to flicker on me I would be back at the dealer so fast it would make their head swim.
You are still breaking it in. It could have a problem. Wouldn't you feel better if they checked it out. Thats dang sure one thing the Dealer is there for.
