Default Dummy Question!!

What steps do you take to remove gas tank?? My new s-glide has no petcock. Do you run er almost dry first? I need to remove for paint and dont want to screw it up!! How do you remove it without getting gas everywhere??

Lend a brother a hand, Thanks

I used vice-grips to pinch the cross-over line on the front of the tank. Then I cut it in half and drained each hose into a gas can. I was installing Jackyl's 3" tank lift, so it came with a new crossover line. (piece of rubber hose) Then removed the quick-connect fuel line expecting a little splash - but not a drop...

siphon as much as you can out first. I assume its EFI, so they you are supposed to pull the fuse for the fuel pump, run the bike till it stalls... then you can remove the external line. If you don't, that line is pressurized and you will spray fuel when you disconnect
Post above addresses the crossover line.

This is all spelled out in the service manual.

Yes, I did address the crossover line. Drained the tank from the crossover lines. Then removed the fuel line - and didn't spray fuel all over the place. Then removed the tank bolts and tank. Didn't see the reason to run the engine until it stalls.

Maybe not the manual's way, but it worked just fine.

I found some hose made a cap and a plug out of a bolt and some teflon tape, usually i pinch the crossoverline on the left side with needle nose v-grips, then i just slide the crossover off the right side and cap off tank side with the rubber cap( 2" hose with a bolt plug in the other end) then plug the crossover line.... unhook your main fuel line and dont forget the fuel gauge plug. then pull the tank. Ive got it down to a science now with almost now gas spilling, just put a tow over the front rocker area..
