I took two stock streetbob mufflers and sandblasted them first. Then I built a jig and laid out the holes. 34 per muffler. I have a buddy with a fabricating shop who drilled them for me with his milling machine and a 3/4" four flute endmill. After drilling, I measured 7/16" off the outside edge of each outside row of holes and split the muffler. I used a chop saw and cut right behind the weld at the front and 1" from the back. They came apart easy after that. I took the half I wasn't going to use and cut four strips 3/8" wide and 1 1/2" long per muffler and bent to shape for my mounting brackets and welded them on for the pipe clamps to go thru. I had them powder coated and installed them today. I initially got the idea from Punty's bike and contacted him. With his help the end result is what you see. I couldn't have done it without his ideas and input.

Very radical.. A thing that would be cool (but to much work) is if you painted the inside of the drilled holes red, the thin wall, if you understand what I mean...

You mean paint the muffler behind the muffler heatshields red? It would be no trouble at all. Just remove the heatshields, then remove the mufflers and have them sandblasted and powder coated red. Powder coating comes in lots of different colors. I don't know if thats true of the high temp powder coating though. It has more silica than regular powder coating. Thats why my shields are more grey than black. If you don't like it you can always dust it over with VHT paint. I prefer the black shields over the chrome mufflers though or black shields over black mufflers.
