Well I was coming home on Thursday evening minding my own business. Next thing I know I met two cops, they did agressive turnarounds and were on my tail. One walks up behind me and asks, "Got any weopons on you"? This just shocked me to a whole new level. Then he asked if I had a permit to carry fire arms. WTF? He then volunteered to tell me that a complaint came in that I had "Brandished a weopon" at them. I then asked them where did the complaint come from. I then realized what had happened. The "Wave" got me, I knew where I had waved at someone and actually knew the guy, a harley rider also. I guess the black gloves and watch looked like a pistol? Don't know if the complaint was actually from him or a cager that I had met. Well after I got searched, my bags got searched, my license number ran through the system, and listened to my explanation, they realized I was clean. Just a word of warning, be careful with that wave. I know there are numerous threads about waves, but I think this one is the first about actually getting pulled over for a silly wave!
Good reason not to wave when carrying a gun, as I'm sure a lot of people do. If some dumba$$ driving his prius saw you wave at your friend and thought you were pointing a gun and you actually had a gun on you, you would have been f*ked thanks to some idiot trying to tattle on you.
You know, it's funny how few cagers really understand that "the wave" exists. Before I started riding, my family had only been involved with dirt bikes, so I didn't know anything about it. One day, my bro-in-law was on his bike following my wife and I in our car, and I thought, "Dang! He must ride with all these guys. He's got a LOT of friends!"
My wave is usually more of a point, but I never even thought about someone misinterpreting it. I've always waved at motor cops, whether I'm on a sportbike or cruiser, so I'm glad all of them are observant enough to know whether a person is holding a weapon or not.
Are people that stupid that they don't realize people on bikes wave, or simply that someone riding a bike down the road isn't necessarily going to whip out a piece and start waving it around? I mean I've seen most people wave with the low angle hand out, maybe a finger or peace sign, but give me a break...I mean you weren't giving the hand gun pose with your hand or waving it around like you were pulling a drive by right?
Sounds pretty rediculous. I would have had a hard time keeping a straight face if the cops pulled me over for that one. I'd have first asked them if they were serious because I'd be convinced it was a joke...however I know doing so probably wouldn't make the predicimend any easier to deal with.
